Annette Benning, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo Nick and Jules are long-term, devoted, loving relationships, but they are by no means perfect same-sex relationships. Nick, a doctor, has to exercise what he thinks is control, while Jules, under that control, lacks confidence. During their relationship, Jules struggled in her life from nine to five, sometimes trying to start a business – always unsuccessfully – or being a stay-at-home mom. He’s trying to start a landscape design business. They have two teenage children, Johnny (conceived by Nick) and Laser (by Jules). Although not an exact copy, each offspring is very similar to its parent in biology. Johnny and Laser are also half brothers, have the same unknown sperm donor father. Shortly after Johnny’s eighteenth birthday, and shortly before he plans to leave home and go to college, Laser, who is only fifteen years old, does so, asking him to try contacting his sperm donor father.
