They wanted it to be easier and safer. Just when you thought you wouldn’t see any other version of Internet Explorer on this next ice age page, Microsoft is introducing a whole new version of its all-powerful browser app.
So long ago that many web users got tired of waiting for Microsoft to update them and searched elsewhere mostly Firefox.
Now the great and evil king of the browser world is not in the mood to see his crown being squeezed out, but can he do enough to win back his defections?
For starters, the new simplified interface is definitely an improvement.
Microsoft has basically removed the menu bar, hiding all of its tools and features in a series of compact icons that are subtly located at the top right of the user interface.
You can display pages in a very large viewing area. IE has also decided to finally support tabbed browsing. It features a new currently open tab, as well as a great quick tab button that displays thumbnails of all open tabs on a single screen. Unlike Firefox, IE 7 has a close button on each tab.
You can even save tab groups as your homepage so they start at startup. We also appreciate the print preview tool used to customize the paper page. 7 has improved RSS integration. Whenever you come across a site that supports RSS, the toolbar icon will turn orange.
Click on it and you will be redirected to a page showing all the feeds for that website. Just click the link to subscribe to this feed and add it to your favorites.
You can also sign up by clicking on the star icon on the left. However, unlike Firefox, there is no drop-down view for each item in the feed.
The Favorites Center, which can be opened by clicking on the large star icon, is divided into Favorites, Sources, and History.
Security is often one of the weaknesses defined by IE.
In addition to blocking pop-ups, version 7 also includes an anti-phishing filter. To test it, we are opening famous phishing sites posted on Phishtank. To our disappointment, the filter failed to report most of them. Phishing protection may not be the strong point of IE 7, but at least the browser includes SSL 2 security protocols.
0 and 3. 0 and TLS 1.0, just like Firefox.
Despite all the improvements, IE is far from perfect. Like Firefox, IE fails the Acid2 test and doesn’t even support the latest standards.
We noticed a lag and delay in IE when opening new tabs, toolbar, and new settings. You can add a large number of Microsoft add-ons and search bars, but they are still much smaller compared to Mozilla’s Firefox extensions.
Also, IE 7 is limited to those that have XP SP2. For some reason, you must disable antivirus and restart your computer to ensure proper installation (function () {(‘review-app-page-desktop’).});
