Microsoft Office, or simply Office, is a group of client software, server software, and services developed by Microsoft. Bill Gates first reported the matter on August 1, 1988 at COMDEX in Las Vegas. Originally, the marketing terms for office suites (bundled productivity application packages) included the first versions of Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Over the years, Office applications have become closer to common features such as general spell checking, OLE data integration, and Visual Basic for Application programming languages. It also houses Microsoft Office as a business software development platform under the Office Business Applications brand. On July 10, 2012, Softpedia announced that Office had been used by more than one billion people worldwide.
Office is produced in several versions for end users and different computing environments. The original and most widely used version was the desktop version, available for personal computers running Windows and MacOS operating systems. Microsoft also manages mobile apps for Android and iOS. Office Web is a version of software that runs in a Web browser.
Since Office 2013, Microsoft has promoted Office 365 as the primary way to acquire Microsoft Office: this allows other software and services in a business model on demand, and users receive free software upgrades during the subscription period, including new features and cloud computing integration. which is not necessarily part of the “local” Office edition sold subject to standard license. In 2017, Office 365 revenue exceeded normal license sales.
